Common Questions About Our Services for Autism Spectrum Disorder

We offer highly individualized programming for youth and young adults ages 12 to 25 years old. We understand each child and family experience their own unique differences and challenges, which require a range of intensity and services. Our clinical and community-based treatment is designed for youth with learning differences, Asperger’s Disorder, High Functioning Autism, ADD/ADHD and social/emotional issues related to anxiety and depression. We offer a free consultation for parents to learn more about our services and ensure that they are the right match for your child and family.

At Equinox Counseling & Wellness Center, we recognize the value of specialized academic settings in working with neurodiverse youth. We partner with not only your family, but with the school as well in order to provide the most effective treatment with a team approach. Our outpatient therapy services are unique in that they focus on engaging youth in their environments, with activities they enjoy and with the goal of building social competence, increasing executive functioning and finding alternatives to acting out to get needs/wants met. It is not traditional “talk therapy.” Rather, our services are engaging, community-based and highly focused on generalizing what your child learns into the home and school environment.

Through a thorough intake process, our team of skilled professionals will assess your situation and design a specialized program that fits your needs. Through our parent partnering process, we will work with you to determine the most effective level and intensity of care.

Our Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) is often recommended when parents are considering the necessity of out-of-home placement, when youth are transitioning home from out-of-home treatment, and as a treatment option when traditional one-time-a-week talk therapy is not producing the desired results. With most of our youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), we have found that our Intensive Treatment Program is an effective approach to address not only compensatory and life skill development, but behavioral issues, situational coping skills, executive functioning, social skill building, problem solving and relationship development. Different than therapy, our ITP includes mentoring, therapeutic community Intervention, parent coaching, and experiential, adventure and wilderness programming.

Yes, Equinox offers a fun and creative solution to helping youth develop important life and social skills. We call it “Social Fitness the EQ Way!” Club EQ is a program for 11 to 13-year-olds, while EQ Life is for older teens ages 14 to 17. Our social fitness sessions run in six-week intervals, and focus on the development of important life and social skills that encourage belonging, building friendships and pro-social competency skill development. One afternoon a week your child will participates in Flexible Brains, which is a focused group process that teaches situational coping, emotional regulation and learning effective ways to relate to peers and adults. Then, on Saturdays, through club-like activities with their peers, your child has an opportunity to practice the skills learned in Flexible Brains through fun engaging activities specifically chosen to enhance learning. Contact us for more information about when the next six-week session begins.
