Many of the youth that enroll in our program have been in therapy or various treatment programs and settings over the years. After recognizing a pattern in this, we began to ask ourselves why are we seeing so many kids and families that have been in treatment, yet are still experiencing difficulties and not achieving the type of results they are looking for. We then began to pay close attention to each of these instances and how this relates to why we help families the way we do. Our therapeutic approach is unique and central to Equinox. It includes three very important key elements:
1 ) Trauma – Informed. Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an intervention model and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. Trauma-Informed Care emphasizes the physical, psychological and emotional safety of the youth. This model is grounded in an advanced understanding that the brains response to stress and it’s subsequent survival response must be methodically worked with in a manner that each treatment intervention matches how a persons brain is organized, wired and responds.
2 ) Neurosequential. The neurosequential model of treatment is a developmentally informed approach to working with children, youth and teens. It is not a specific therapeutic technique or intervention, but rather a way to organize history, experiences and current functioning. A neurosequential approach helps the clinical team in structuring the treatment plan, and articulating primary or rudimentary problems and key strengths in a way that best helps each youth.
3 ) Clinically Immersed. At Equinox, our strengths reside in pairing the intensity of each clinical intervention with a neuroscience approach to client care. We are the home of a truly one-of-a-kind community based treatment model that is the result of many years of experience in various settings, which include residential treatment, wilderness therapy, mental health centers, and community based treatment. Clinical immersion is truly obtained when individual treatment team members fully understand their role, how each respective role best synergizes within the context of the entire team, and how that role relates to the overall purpose and needs of each youth. Immersion is fully accomplished when all aspects of the youth’s experience has related purpose with each interaction building upon one another.
Our programs range in intensity level, are truly individualized, are community and home-based, inclusive of wilderness therapy and action oriented experiences, and provides a collaborative team with a specific knowledge and skill-based matched to your needs.
