A lot of programs talk about family involvement and support, but we take both to a new level. To help young people overcome extremely durable challenges, things can't stay the same in the home.
From parent coaching, to family therapy and wilderness therapy, we do work required to deliver true, family level healing.
Here's a quote from one of our parents:
"A service that is available with Equinox that isn’t usually (practically) available via traditional therapeutic providers is that if a situation comes up between sessions, we can call or text our parent coach for immediate support.”
To use the words of one of our parents, "The program and the people really are one of kind (which is unfortunate, if you really think about it)."
We feel the same way... we wish there were more intensive outpatient programs like ours, because that's what it takes to help many families find healing. But because we're so unique, you won't have experienced a level of care like ours.
"Miracle. Peace at home. This is unprecedented. I don’t know who you all are but, you’re clearly onto something. Nothing else to say. Except…THANK YOU!!! "
Many of our patients struggle in school, but not because they lack intelligence…most are incredibly bright. However, anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, OCD, and executive functioning challenges can present other barriers to academic performance. Our Academic Support Services focus on helping to overcome those barriers, while our specialized academic partner offers personalized one-on-one private schooling for those who struggle in traditional schools.
Together, we help our patients realize their academic potential, with a large percentage ultimately transitioning back into a more mainstream academic setting and then going on to attend college.
Youth are demonstrating a wide range of problematic technology use which ranges from unhealthy, to unsafe, to full addiction. This type of problematic behavior is becoming more and more pervasive with young people today. Equinox Counseling & Wellness Center has a team of process addiction experts that assists in intervening with this problem and has a specific process to ensure safe, sustainable technology use.
Many of our patients have a history of resistance, but it's not something we struggle with, thanks to our incredible team and the experiential nature of our program.
Here's how one parent described their surprise:
"Equinox uses physical activities & challenges in and outdoors (called experiential therapy) to build trust, help integrate therapeutic concepts and build upon clients' various strengths and abilities. This approach has been very effective with our now 13-year-old son— who can’t (or wouldn't) sit still for an hour in a traditional counseling office JUST TALKING." — B-Mom of 12-year-old upon admission.
Our programs include Milieu Therapy, individual, family, and peer-based components. This approach helps our young people to integrate and practice new skills and competencies in a variety of real-life contexts.
Working with and watching peers make progress is incredibly empowering, and the sense of community our kids feel is irreplaceable.
Because of their challenges, most of the young people we help have never felt like they've had a community who gets them. Here they will.
We don't come into your life when everything is working; we help when things are serious...when things need to change and you know you need a more intensive program to make lasting progress.
However, we understand all our families have busy lives, which is why we take responsibility for working with your family's schedule to make it work.
For example, here's what one patient had to say about their parent coach's level of commitment:
"Tim is our parent coach and does experiential work with our family...He lives in CO/Springs which makes me nervous for safe commuting home after we end long and hard sessions at 7 or 8 at night..." R-Parent of 15-year-old boy
This is a concern for many parents who are faced with their child needing intensive treatment. The peer culture at Equinox is one of health, where kids to do not "leak" their problems, but rather connect on prosocial behaviors. Our treatment environment is kind, calm, and compassionate, which puts parents at ease, given the sometimes-previous experience of their child learning and picking up worse or more problematic behaviors in the environments in which they were placed to get better.
Many parents are told their child needs to go to Wilderness Therapy or Therapeutic Boarding School (residential treatment). Unfortunately, it has become common for mental health professionals to refer a child to out-of-home placement. While this level of care is necessary for some children some of the time, it is not necessary for most children most of the time. To help parents learn about intensive treatment, while keeping their child at home, Equinox offers a free consultation to evaluate if we are a good fit for your child and family. To schedule a free consultation please contact us.
Equinox is considered an out-of-network treatment provider with all insurance companies. Therefore, we do not bill insurance companies directly. We do provide clients with supporting documents such as a superbill with the appropriate medical and diagnostic information. With this information you can then follow insurance billing procedures for out-of-network reimbursement for your particular insurance company.
Yes, we are a local and national resource for families. Please reach out to discuss your child or young adult’s specific needs.
